Floral ice cubes

Making ice may seem simple, but there are a few tricks to turning your edible flowers into frozen beauties.

  1. Use distilled water, bring it to a rolling boil, then cool it back down to room temperature. Repeat this process twice before starting. Don't skip this step! Boiling removes the aeration, which will give you crystal clear ice cubes.

  2. To get your flowers perfectly placed in the center of the ice, start by filling your ice cube tray only about a quarter of the way full and freezing until solid.

  3. Once the quarter-full ice cubes are frozen, place your flowers face down and top with water to halfway full. Freeze until solid.

  4. Once frozen, fill the ice cube trays the remainder of the way and finish freezing. At that point you can remove them from the ice cube trays and store them in bags or Tupperware in the freezer.
